Cromwell Winery Cruises pontoon boat on the lake, with vineyard-covered hills reflected in the still water.

Cromwell Winery Cruises (summer season)

New Zealand’s only winery tour by boat. A full day on Lake Dunstan visiting three Central Otago cellar doors by water: Matt Connell Wines first, then Carrick, then Cloudy Bay, with a scenic cruise between each stop and complimentary tastings at the first winery.

Pickup is from anywhere in the Cromwell area from 9.30am, the boat gets underway at 10am, and the day wraps up by 4.30pm, around six to seven hours all up. The boat takes up to 10 people for a mixed-group sailing, or up to 11 if you’re booking it out privately. Two short walks, about 400m each, connect the jetty to the cellar doors, including a small rise up to Carrick, so sensible footwear is worth packing.

If the weather turns, the day doesn’t just get cancelled: guests can run the tour by van instead. Rain in Cromwell rarely sets in for the whole day, so the boat can pick the tour back up if conditions clear.

Runs seasonally to the end of May and starts again Spring. We’ll suggest it when your dates fit.
