It hasn’t yet gained the global profile of nearby Bannockburn, but Alexandra’s unique climate of hot days and cool nights, distinctive soils, and rugged landscapes give its wines a character all their own.
What makes this region so special
Small family vineyards here have consistently punched above their weight. Three Miners has taken top trophies including best Pinot Gris and overall wine awards, and Ruru has won gold medals and national recognition for its Pinot Noir. Other producers in the basin are also earning accolades in regional and national shows, reflecting the depth of quality across this emerging sub-region.
What makes Alexandra truly unique is the authenticity of the tasting experience. You are often welcomed by the vineyard owner, hearing the story behind each wine directly from the person who planted the vines, nurtured the grapes, and crafted the final bottle.
