Can I bring my own bike on the Otago Rail Trail?

Yes. You can bring your own bike on the Otago Central Rail Trail.

Bike Preparation We recommend you get your bike serviced before your trip. You should bring spare parts that you might need during your ride.

Essential Spare Parts You must bring spare tubes and a pump. You should also bring spare spokes, as we will not have spokes in the correct length for your bike if you need a repair. The specific spare parts you need depend on your bike model.

Saddle Comfort Your saddle must be comfortable for rides of 30 to 40 kilometres per day. Trail riding involves more sitting in the saddle than riding on single track, so you should test your saddle comfort before your trip.

Bike Transport We charge higher rates for transporting your own bike compared to our hire bikes. Bike bags and bike boxes also incur higher transport fees. These higher rates account for the extra time required to secure your bike to our trailers.

Gravel biking The Central Otago region offers fantastic gravel bike riding opportunities. You can use our services as the backbone for a cycling journey throughout the regions many trails and gravel bike opportunities.
