Otago Rail Trail distance Map

The Otago Central Rail Trail is 152 kilometres long, running between Clyde in Central Otago and Middlemarch in the Strath Taieri. A full set of maps including an interactive GPS map, downloadable PDF, and a distances table is available on our Otago Rail Trail map page.

Most cyclists complete the trail over 4 to 5 days at a comfortable pace of around 30 to 40 kilometres per day. The trail climbs gradually from both ends to its highest point near Wedderburn, roughly in the middle of the route, so understanding the elevation profile helps when planning your daily distances and direction of travel.

Our map page includes:

  • An interactive GPS map with full elevation profile, total climb, and distances between waypoints
  • A high-resolution image map showing the full route and key towns
  • A downloadable PDF map for offline use when phone coverage is limited
  • A distances table showing the kilometres between every station site

We also provide a paper map as part of your itinerary briefing when you pick up your bike.

For on-trail navigation, our free Rail Trail trip notes app gives you section-by-section information including food and water locations, toilet stops, and important notices.
