Luggage Transport on the Trails - What You Need to Know
Luggage transport is an important part of your trail journey and means you don’t have to struggle to try and fit it into pannier bags.
We include luggage transport in your itinerary to ensure your bags move seamlessly from one accommodation to the next, leaving you free to enjoy the ride without carrying extra weight.
Bags Need to Be 15kg or Less
All individual luggage items must weigh no more than 15kg each. This isn’t about limiting you to one bag, it’s about keeping each bag at a safe and manageable weight for our team.
Each bag is treated as an individual tagged item and charged as such. The 15kg limit applies per bag, not as a combined total. For example, bringing two smaller bags that add up to 15kg (e.g. a 10kg and a 5kg bag) will result in the second bag being charged for as an additional bag. Only bags under 15kg, with one tag per bag, will be transported.
Our transport team carries, lifts and stacks bags as part of the luggage shifting process. They’re often moving over gravel, up stairs, or dealing with uneven ground without the aid of conveyors and teams of staff that you would find in an airport. The 15kg limit ensures safe handling for everyone.
Need to Store Extra Luggage?
We understand your ride might be part of a longer trip. Here are your options for managing extra luggage:
- Free storage: Leave additional bags at your starting depot if you’ll be returning there at the end of your journey.
- Forward transfer: Larger luggage items (up to 23kg) can be moved to the end of the trail for collection, for a fee, if your travel continues from there.
Please let us know in advance so we can include this in your itinerary transport plan.
Medical and Children’s Equipment
We’re happy to transport essential or family-related items at no extra charge, including:
- CPAP machines or small chilly bins for medical items (e.g. insulin)
- Children’s equipment such as a port-a-cot or stroller
Just let us know ahead of time so we can plan for it in our logistics.
Important Packing Guidelines
To keep your belongings safe and ensure smooth handling, please follow these key rules:
- All items must be packed inside your bag, we can’t accept anything tied onto the outside (like shoes, hats, or jackets).
- Luggage is stacked during transport, so pack fragile items carefully.
- All bags must be ready for collection by 9:00am each morning.
Our team runs to a schedule to ensure your bags arrive at your next stop by check-in time or is at the end of your ride if you’re finishing giving you enough time to change and relax before onwards transport.
Luggage Tags and Changes
We provide pre-printed luggage tags with your full trail itinerary listed on the tags. This helps make sure every bag gets to the right destination each day.
Because luggage logistics are arranged in advance, reducing your number of bags within 30 days of your trip will be treated as a cancellation and is non-refundable. Be sure to finalise your luggage needs early.
Can I Share a Bag?
We’re sometimes asked if two people can share one bag. In practice, this usually leads to issues.
Trying to pack for two adults in a single bag often pushes it over 15kg, resulting in last-minute repacking or the now unexpected cost of a second bag. Each bag is weighed and tagged individually, so it’s best for every adult to pack their own 15kg bag for a smoother experience.
