What does “full service” mean?
At SheBikesHeBikes, being a full service provider means we can look after almost every part of your cycling adventure on the Otago Central Rail Trail, Roxburgh Gorge Trail, Clutha Gold Trail, Lake Dunstan Trail and any other cycling adventure on the surrounding trails (more about that later).
We take care of the details so you can focus on the riding.
From helping you choose the right route and creating a FREE tailored itinerary, to supplying quality bikes and e-bikes, arranging shuttles and bag transport, booking accommodation, and providing on-trail phone support, we’ve got you covered.
On this page you’ll find a breakdown of what we offer in each location, so you can see exactly what’s available where you’re riding, and where we might recommend another trusted operator if it’s outside our service area.

Clyde is our main hub, perfectly positioned as the gateway to four of Central Otago’s most iconic cycle trails:
From here, we can connect you to the best rides in the region, whether you’re starting your journey, finishing it, or planning a day’s adventure. Our depot is also one of the most beautiful buildings in town, having once been the Clyde Railway Station.

- Most journeys start from Clyde, if yours does, you’ll receive a helpful briefing and your itinerary pack here.

- Collect your pre-booked bikes with a proper fitting and briefing.
- Mechanical assistance available for your own bike if it’s in need for some TLC.
Transport
Our pre-booked shuttles run far and wide from Clyde, including:
- Three scheduled daily journeys to and from Queenstown
- Morning Lake Dunstan transfer from Clyde to Cromwell to start your ride.
- Afternoon Lake Dunstan transfer from Clyde to Cromwell if you need to get back to your vehicle or accommodation in Cromwell
- Roxburgh Gorge and Clutha Gold Trail passenger and luggage transport.
- Otago Central Rail Trail passenger and luggage transport, including day trip options. We also have tours that start from Omakau
Retail – gear for the trail and souvenirs
We have some of best value cycling clothing in the region and we know it goes the distance. You’ll also find a variety of other last minute items to keep you moving along with the all important souvenir to take home to remind you about the fantastic time you had in Central Otago!

Omakau
Omakau is where our story started back in 2009, first as a small day-trip operation, and quickly growing into a full end-to-end service covering hundreds of kilometres of cycle trail goodness. Located right on the Otago Central Rail Trail and just 12.5 Km from the spectacular Poolburn Gorge and Auripo section, it’s the ideal base for day riders. Hire a bike and head out for a return ride, or take advantage of our transport options if you prefer to cycle one way.

Local Knowledge
- Our Omakau crew know the area inside out and can connect you with an itinerary planner if you’re looking for more than a day trip from Omakau.
Rider Support
- For many riders on the Otago Central Rail Trail, Omakau or Ophir marks the end of their first day. It’s a great place to get extra advice, pick up some cycling gear, or even upgrade to an e-bike if you’ve decided to give your legs a rest.

Transport
Our main Clyde to Middlemarch shuttle departs from Omakau daily, carrying local luggage and day-trippers before continuing through to Middlemarch. It returns via Clyde in the afternoon to meet the Queenstown connection.

Middlemarch
Middlemarch marks the eastern end of the Otago Central Rail Trail and sits within the Dunedin city boundary ( Dunedin is the largest city in New Zealand by land area).
Many riders finish their Rail Trail adventure here, while others choose to start in Middlemarch and ride through to Clyde. Although most people cycle Clyde to Middlemarch, riding it in reverse offers a fresh perspective and completely different views.
Our Middlemarch depot offers plenty of indoor and outdoor space, along with free tea and coffee for anyone wanting a cuppa before onward travel. The township also has Maggie’s General Store, the Kissing Gate Café, and the Strath Taieri Hotel.

Transport
Our pre-booked shuttles from Middlemarch include:
- Morning and afternoon transfers between Middlemarch and Dunedin Airport / City.
- The Clyde-Middlemarch shuttle turnaround happens here, returning to Clyde to connect with the Queenstown shuttle in the late afternoon.
- Lake Waihola transfers to Dunedin Airport, City, and Middlemarch for those riding the big loop of Central Otago.

Cromwell
Although we don’t have a physical depot in Cromwell, we may as well, with transport running to and from the town up to three times a day. This means we can assist with a variety of services for riders starting, finishing, or passing through Cromwell.
Services Available from Cromwell
Bike Hire
- Our morning transport from Clyde can meet you in Cromwell and set you up on bikes to ride through to Clyde, returning on our end-of-day shuttle.
Transport
We can offer a range of transport solutions to and from Cromwell, including:
- If you have your own bikes and want to cycle from Cromwell to Clyde, we can provide transport back at the end of the day.
- If you’re starting a multi-day tour from Cromwell, we can set you up on hire bikes, collect your bags, and arrange onward transport to Clyde or Alexandra.
- If you’ve cycled up from Clyde and need a ride back, we can organise that too.
Luggage Transport
- Pre-booked luggage transport to and from Cromwell for day riders and multi-day tour groups.
